Lawn Care Survey 2024

This year, we embarked on a journey to delve deeper into the world of lawn care, driven by a curiosity to understand people's evolving opinions and practices. Teaming up with the exceptional team at StoryArc PR, we embarked on a mission to uncover valuable insights into the realm of lawn care enthusiasm. Through our collaborative efforts, we unearthed a wealth of fascinating statistics that shed light on the ever-growing interest and dedication towards nurturing our lawns. Join us as we uncover some of the intriguing discoveries about lawn care habits in Irish households.

The findings of the survey shed light on a landscape where satisfaction with lawn appearance remains elusive, with only a mere 9% expressing true contentment. A staggering 40% of respondents voiced dissatisfaction, while 49% described themselves as only 'quite satisfied.'

The survey aimed to uncover the root causes of these sentiments, revealing common aesthetic concerns such as weeds (44%), moss (22%), and the challenge of maintaining a healthy green colour (19%). Other issues highlighted included long or unruly grass (9%) and uneven patches at (6%).

Delving into lawn maintenance habits, the survey uncovered a spectrum of mowing frequencies. While 51% opt for a weekly mow throughout summer, 37% are content with a fortnightly approach. Surprisingly, only 5% mow less than once a month. Budget-wise, the majority (38%) allocate up to €50 annually for lawn care, with significant portions investing between €50 - €100 (29%) and €100 - €200 (19%), while 13% of people exceed €200 annually.

The survey also explored the type of mower commonly used, and results signified electric mowers (53%) and push mowers (45%) emerging as the preferred choices, while robot mowers lagged at a mere 2% adoption rate.

Further insights revealed that artificial grass remains relatively uncommon, with only 5% of respondents opting for this alternative. When it comes to decorative features, flowers reign supreme (83%), followed by gnomes/statues (24%) and water features (16%). Interestingly, 53% of respondents utilize their lawns primarily for relaxation and socializing, highlighting the integral role these green spaces play in fostering social connections and well-being.

The survey also sought to understand the prevalence of product usage in lawn care practices, revealing that 49% of respondents rely on products or food to nurture their lawns. Intriguingly, 40% of respondents prioritise organic and sustainable attributes when selecting lawn care products to purchase.
